Publishing with Berean Press
Our Foundation
Berean Press is a publisher shaped by Biblical principles – not as a marketing position, but as the ground on which every decision rests. We exist to publish formational Christian writing: work rooted in the whole of Scripture, with the teachings of Jesus as its primary lens, that helps Christians at any stage of their walk with God live more faithfully in His light.
That purpose governs not only what we publish but how we treat every person we work with. We operate as stewards of what has been entrusted to us, not as owners of what we have generated. The full Ten Principles document is available on request.
What We Do
Berean Press takes on the editorial, design, production, and distribution of every title we publish. We commission and pay for editing – developmental where a book needs it, line and copy throughout, proofing at the end. We design the cover and the interior.
We arrange print and ebook editions and place each title with Ingram, Amazon, and the Christian trade. We handle ISBNs, royalty accounting, and subsidiary rights.
There is no charge to the author. We carry the cost of bringing the book to print because that is what publishing means. In return we hold the publishing rights for the term of our agreement and share in the income from sales.
What we look for
Every manuscript we consider is tested against a single question: does this work bear fruit in lives more clearly reflecting the teachings of Jesus? It is a question about formation – not about intention, position, or whether a manuscript is well-written.
How We Work Together
We read manuscripts carefully and respond honestly. If we take a book on, we expect to be in conversation with the author throughout – about argument and structure, about what a chapter is doing, about the title and the cover and the audience. Our editors work for the book, which sometimes means working against an author’s first instincts. We do this in service of the work and with respect for the person who wrote it.
We take time. We do not rush manuscripts into print. Every manuscript receives the editorial attention it needs, for as long as it needs it.
Once a book is published we do not disappear. Royalty accounting is plain. Sales reports are shared. We promote titles for the life of the book, not only at launch.
The Author Charter – which sets out what you can expect from Berean Press at every stage, and what we ask in return – is provided before any agreement is signed and is available on request.
How We Work
We carry the full cost of editorial, design, and production. A manuscript should not have to be funded by the person who wrote it.
Every submission receives a response. We distinguish clearly between a categorical decision and a quality judgment, and we say which applies.
The same principles that govern what we publish govern how we treat every person we work with. The Author Charter is a commitment, not a formality.
We do not disappear at publication. We maintain honest accounts and promote titles for the life of the book.
